How to Know God

Did you know that you were created to have a loving relationship with God? He is patiently and lovingly waiting for you to respond to His invitation to salvation. Yes, you can receive forgiveness for your sins and assurance of eternal life through faith in His only Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. "God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved" (John 3:16-17). "Now this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent" (John 17:3).

You may be asking yourself: "How can I know God?" Man is able to know the true and living God through His Word (that is, the Bible). The Bible reveals God's character and His plan for mankind. It is through reading His Word that we come to a knowledge of the righteousness of God and that which He requires of us.

What is it that prevents us from personally knowing God? Our sin has separated us from God — our corruption is to such a degree that we cannot know Him personally and cannot experience His love. God's Word says, "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). Man was created to have fellowship with God, but because of his sin (i.e., anything that is against the righteousness revealed in God's Law) he is prevented from that fellowship. This includes anything less than perfect obedience to God's commands.

"The wages of sin is death" (Romans 6:23a). The ultimate result of this death is an eternity in Hell. This spiritual death forces a separation from God. Man is sinful and God is holy. This creates a gulf unbridgeable by man making that intended fellowship impossible. The only solution is a divine bridge — that bridge is Christ.

God created a way by sending His Son to pay the price for our sin. "God demonstrated His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8). He died in our place; He who knew no sin became sin for us. This removed our burden of sin and allows us to enter into that desired fellowship if we follow His way.

He is the only way. Jesus said "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me" (John 14:6).

It is not just enough that you know these truths. We must individually place our trust in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. It is by repenting of our sins and believing on Christ that we can know God personally and experience His love.  Take a minute to read John 1:12, Ephesians 2:8-10, and  (Acts 2:38).

You can receive Jesus Christ right now by faith. "If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made to salvation" (Romans 10:9-10).

If you now believe on God and place your faith in His Son, congratulations — and welcome to His family. We, all being His children, share in a heavenly inheritance! We are heirs to heaven and are promised the eternal pleasure of glorifying God. As our life here on earth progresses, God will continue to work in our hearts. We are daily being conformed to the image of Christ, Himself. We will begin to live lives of righteousness. Obedience to God will not be a burden to us, but rather a joy.

You may wonder, now that you are a Christian, "What now?" Our greatest recommendation for believers, new and old, is: 1) find a church so you might hear the preaching of the Word and rejoice in the fellowship of other Christians, 2) study the Bible for that is where we learn of God and His plans, 3) pray to Him to strengthen your faith and increase your love toward Him.  All of these will work to encourage and build upon your faith. If you have any questions, search the Scriptures, ask your Pastor, or please feel free to ask us.

We believe in . . .
  • The Bible:  We believe the Bible to be the verbal, written & inspired Word of God, uniquely inerrant, infallible, and God-breathed, and therefore the final authority for faith and life. We accept it as our infallible guide in matters pertaining to conduct and doctrine. The sixty-six books of the Old & New Testaments are the complete, divine revelation of God to man.  (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21)

  • God:  We believe in one God revealed as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, being co-equal (Phil. 2:6), each distinct in office from the other, yet perfectly one. (Matthew 28:19; Luke 3:22; John 14:9,16; John 17:3)

  • The Person and Work of Jesus Christ:  We believe the Lord Jesus Christ to be the only begotten Son of the Father -- all knowing, all powerful, all present -- complete in Himself, having always existed, ever active in the universe and still involved in the lives of all men. Born of a virgin, died on the cross for the sins of mankind, was raised from the dead & ascended into Heaven to sit at the right hand of the Father, & coming again as promised. (Psalm 90:2; Isaiah 43:10; Matthew 1:23; John 1:14; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Philippians 2:13; Colossians 1:1-2; Hebrews 7:26, 9:18).  He was and is the only Messiah.

  • The Holy Spirit:  We believe in the present-day ministry of the Holy Spirit on the earth and in the lives of individuals. We believe that the baptism in the Holy Spirit is for every believer, distinct from salvation, with speaking in tongues being the initial accompanying evidence of being baptized and that the gifts of the Spirit are manifested for the purpose of meeting the needs of others. (Joel 2:28; Matthew 28:19; Luke 24:49; John 14:16; Acts 1:4-8; Acts 2:4; Acts 13:1-2; Romans 8:14-16,26-28; 1 Corinthians 12:1-11; 1 Corinthians 14:26-40; 1 Corinthians 24:2,4,5,39)

  • Salvation and the Forgiveness of Sins:  We believe that man was created in the image of God, sinned in Adam and thereby incurred not only physical death but also spiritual death. We believe that all of us are born sinners in need of a  Savior, unable to earn our salvation through ood works and thereby destined for judgment and eternal separation from God. However, we also believe there is the Good News of the Gospel -- that salvation is the free gift of God brought to man by grace and received by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. This abundant, everlasting life with God and the forgiveness of sins is available through Jesus Christ alone and is offered to all who confess their sins and believe and trust in His atoning death on the cross. (Isaiah 53:1-10; Luke 8:6; John 3:16, 10:10; Acts 4:12; Romans 3:23; Ephesians 2:8-10; 1 Thessalonians 5:23; 1 John 1:9)

  • Hell, Heaven & Eternal Judgment:  We believe that someone who physically dies in his sins, without accepting Jesus Christ, is hopelessly and eternally lost in Hell, the Lake of Fire, and then has no further opportunity of hearing the Gospel and repenting. The Lake of Fire is a real place. So is Heaven.  The terms "eternal" and "everlasting," used in describing the duration of ones punishment in the Lake of Fire, carry the same thought and meaning of endless existence as used in describing the duration of joy of those in the presence of God in Heaven. (Heb. 9:27; Rev. 19:20)

  • Healing:  We believe divine healing was provided to the believer through Christ's finished work on the cross and that it is God's will for us to be healed -- in spirit, soul, and body. Healing is wrought by the power of God through the prayer of faith, and may be administered by the laying on of hands. (Isaiah 53:4-5; Matthew 8:17; Acts 10:38; 1 Peter 2:24)

  • Provision & Blessing:  We believe it is God's will for believers to prosper & succeed in all areas of life. Gods Word, the Bible, promises blessings and provision that includes spiritual, physical, financial, relational, and emotional wholeness and well-being.  We believe God's plan is to bless His people so that they may be a blessing to others by giving to the poor, supporting the advancement of the gospel, and influencing society. (Psalm 1; John 3:3-11; John 10:10; Romans 10:9-10; Isaiah 53:4-5; I Peter 2:24; Deut. 28:1-14; II Corinthians 9:6-10; Philippians 4:19)

  • The Local Church:  We believe the church is to BE active in meeting the needs of those in their individual communities.  We believe the local church to be the local assembly of born-again, baptized believers meeting together to share in the worship experience, Bible teaching, consolidation of resources, fellowship and accountability.    Attendance will not replace your personal relationship with Jesus, but is necessary for encouragement and stability in your walk with Him.  (Matthew 16:18-20)

  • Water Baptism:  We believe water baptism is for all believers and is to be practiced by immersion. It symbolizes our being buried with Christ unto death of self; and as Christ was raised from the dead, so shall we also walk in newness of life.  (Matthew 28:19; Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38; Romans 6:4-5; Colossians 2:12)

  • The Lord's Supper:  We believe the Lord's Supper (Communion), using the physical elements of the bread and the fruit of the vine, is to be observed in remembrance of the shed blood and body of Christ, proclaiming His death on the cross for us. (Luke 22:19; 1 Corinthians 11:17-30; 2 Peter 1:4)

  • The Rapture of the Church:  We believe that at any point prior to Christs Second Coming, He will rapture His church just as He promised in Matthew 24 and 1 Thessalonians 4:17.

  • Christ's Second Coming:  We believe in the literal, and physical return of Jesus Christ to the earth as reigning King.  (Daniel 12:11; Matthew 24:15,21,29; Matthew 25:46; Mark 9:43-48; Luke 21:36; John 14:2-3; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-17; Revelation 3:10, 7:14, 10:11-15; Revelation 19-20, 21:8)
